The state of hurling was the topic of conversation during a round of golf in Birr in 2004. A wide ranging discussion included modern physical preparation, recovery techniques, training drills and the wag of the quartet remarked as he prepared to drive; “could I take a run at this like a sideline cut”?  The hurley then became the focal point.

Golf and so many other sports had benefitted from the application of modern materials and new manufacturing processes. The question was posed, “why not hurling also”?  John Grehan and Tom Wright  took up the challenge.

Five years of Research, Development  and consultation followed. Rigorous testing at Athlone I.T. Materials Technology Department showed we had a modern hurley which maintains the integrity of our ancient game.
